new TAS project update!

3/3/2024

yo yo!! so, i've decided to start working on a new TAS project. at first, I was eyeing Magical Pop'N - Keeta had put me on to this game and was interested in possibly working on it together. There was a very old TAS on youtube that seemed improvable at a glance, so it seemed like a fun project to take on. after doing some research and linking up with the discord though, we discovered that there already was a newer full game TAS by 0xwas, that seemed much more optimized! We hadn't heard of it before because there was no encode available on youtube - just a .bk2 input file buried in the discord. It wasn't fully completed either; it stopped at the 2nd phase of the final boss. It seems that 0xwas never got around to finishing it for whatever reason (I believe he was trying to get it to sync on a newer build of BizHawk and may have been running into issues / out of motivation).

either way, 0xwas had already done most of the work here - there still may be some small improvements to be made in some levels, but I'm looking for a bigger project to take on... so im turning my attention to another game Keeta had put on my radar... Hachiemon! This GBA platformer is somehow even more obscure than Magical Pop'N, but despite that, there are a few TAS WIPs floating around on youtube and TASVideos. They are all at least a decade old though, and surprisingly, this game has extremely complex movement which leaves it wide open some optimization :o It'll be a bit before I really sink my teeth into work on this (I still have beat the game first!) But just for now, I made a little preview of the first section of the first level that shows how weird the movement is xD (that also happens to beat RingRush's WIP of the same section by a couple frames :p) yata....

Yo!!! Finally getting around to updating this site some more, and the first thing im taking care of is getting this blog page into a servicable state. This website has been my very first foray into writing code/markup of any kind, so it's taken a lot of learning for me just to get to this point... but it feels rewarding as heck writing all the html and css from scratch by myself, so it's been a good excercise :3

anyway, i'll be posting more actual updates about projects im working on soon now that I have the page mostly set up, so be sure to check back soon!! Much love
